Richard Avery | 04.01.70 – 10.01.23

I am very sad to announce the passing of photographer/director Richard Avery.  Richard was born in Santa Cruz, Ca on April 1st, 1970 and passed away on October 1st, 2023.  Richard is survived by only his family, fans and friends.

What can be said about the greatest photographer/director who ever lived?  At least, that’s what he always told us as often as he could.  Richard Avery had an unmistakable style.  He was bold and sometimes crazy and so was his work.  Richard will be missed, but never forgotten.  Everyone in the Juliland Universe is shocked and saddened by his passing, but not surprised.

Richard worked hard and played even harder.  He always said he would die young and he always followed through on everything he said.  Richard knew the only way to truly live & play was fast and hard.

I was lucky enough to work with Richard these last 10+ years.  He was my mentor and friend.  He was the best of the best and always was there for everyone he loved.  His desire, passion and love of creativity will never be matched.  He gave everything to his art.  If you look at all 100+ thousand photos I dare you to go find anyone out there who can come close to his greatness.  There is NO one like Richard Avery and there never will be.

For me, he gave me an opportunity to be who I am today.  The best me.  I wasn’t the only one.  I know he helped so many with his advice, wisdom, talent and love.  Richard wanted everyone to be their best and do their best.  He never stopped pushing me to be my best.

I’m supposed to share a memory of my friend and there are too many to count.  What I remember most is his passion for women and art.  I’ve never met anyone more passionate about women and never will.  He loved them with all his heart.  He had more fun than anyone I know.  Just look at his art.

In conclusion, I want to say thank you to the genius, legend & icon Richard Avery for everything he gave to me and everyone.  Rest in peace my friend, we will never forget you.
